Sep. 5, 2009 - Rocktown, GA
Kids are back in school, summer is officially over in a couple of weeks, and the Atlanta Climbing Club is back climbing after a July and August break. Saturday 9/5 a large contingent showed up at Rocktown to boulder including Jamie, Jane, Denmark, Tom, Cathi, Lucius, Mark, Logan, Chuck, Brent, Harry, Peter, and Sally. Trisha, Jerry, and Carole climbed at Lost Wall.
The group started together in The Orb area. All warmed up on several V-fun's, V0's, and V1's. On one of the harder V1's with a heel hook to slap a sloper, Denmark declared "it is at least a V1+ if not a V2".
The group split into two with some going the back way and others going the front way. In the Hueco Simulator area Denmark highballed a precarious, free standing pillar with narrow base and large summit. He dropped a rope so others could climb more safely. Cathi traversed the entire circumference of the surrounding walls on good holds. This group then moved to The Scoop, which everyone attempted.
Meanwhile Harry, Lucius, Chuck, Peter and Sally were wandering the Front Corridor. They found several V0 and V1 problems to their liking, and everyone had a go at them. As the day drew on the problems got taller, culminating in some "spicy" V0 ascents in a corridor.
A light sprinkle started at 4pm, making The Scoop impossible and highballs in the corridor unwise. The group called it a day, had Mexican dinner at Don Lolo's in Lafayette, and got home at a reasonable hour.
