Oct. 8, 2005 - Sand Rock
No, the header is not a typing error. After several days of rain we decided on Saturday morning to go to Sandrocks and not stick with Jamestown. Sandrocks dries out faster than Jamestown because of a steady breeze along the Cliffside. We started with 8 climbers at the Sporting Club at Windy Hill and met Trisha, Carole and Jerry in the climbing area. We started at Sun Wall with Popular Science (5.9+, Frank in lead), First Black in Space Direct (5.8, Denmark set it up as top rope) and Misty (5.10 c/d, Jeff in lead). Later Jeff did a great job at Ale 81 (5.10c) with a slow motion fall right at the 2nd bold. For Adam, his belayer, the fall turned out with burned fingers. Tom led Burly Girls (5.7) further down in the Whipping Post area. In the afternoon we changed location to a new area called The Hole (?) and Denmark led the new routes Muffins are Burning (5.10c) and Who do you love? (5.11). For sure he didn't love the hornets nest close to the top of the last route and left booty. The group met again at Knob Wall (5.6, Adam in lead) and headed out at 6:30 pm from there to the Steak and BBQ Roadhouse in Rome.
Thanks to all who did a lead, you did a great job. There has been challenging routes for leaders and top ropers of all abilities and it made the trip a lot of fun.
