Lost Wall Trail Day Trip Report

The Lost Wall Trail Day went well. We had good weather, a good turnout (but not as many as last year), and good work (but not as hard as last year). The trail crew reported the trail was clean, in good shape, and had only a few downed trees. Hurricane Ivan has probably changed all that. The overlook crew reported it was not as cluttered as in past years but still they filled over 6 huge garbage bags with trash. Gary Latimer cooked hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch and Girl Scout Troup 6920 sponsored by Dalton Parks & Recreation joined us and signed the Thank You page. Several late arriving climbers bought raffle tickets, too. We had many great prizes including two packs and three ropes. We also had a new type of rope bag from Black Diamond: a cinch bag. Patagonia donated three tops and one pair of pants. There were many smaller prizes including two moonbeam headlamps, two Omega belay devices, chalk bags, caps, T-shirts, etc. Every volunteer won something. We held two ropes aside for secret auctions. One brought $95 and the other $105. We brought in a total of $690. We plan to split the money between the Southeastern Climbers Coalition and the Access Fund.

We had time to get in some climbing in the afternoon: Maybe Not, Clodhopper, Roger's Corner, Black Pig, Ladyslipper, The Refrigerator Crack, Didn't Make It To Sunset, Casual Pay, etc. Four of us camped overnight and climbed on Sunday: Guzzler, Somalian Hunger, Ethnic Cleanser, Lost and Found, etc. Bow hunting season was open and ranger Tim said there were 250 hunters, but I only saw one.
